Home Starter Kit Program

Greater Harrisburg Area NAACP, Greater Harrisburg Area Lenten Fellowship, and First Zion Baptist Church of Edgemont want to reach homeless Veterans, individuals and/or families that will be transitioning to housing and provide them with a home starter kit. Please consider providing multiple items, if possible (listed below).   

You can bring the donations beginning Wednesday, February 22, 2023 between 7pm to 8pm during Lenten Season to First Zion Baptist Church of Edgemont, 1500 Edgemont Road, Harrisburg, PA  17109.  Or during our monthly meeting in February, and March at 7pm to 8pm  held at the AFSCME 150 S 43rd St, Harrisburg, PA  17111.

Our goal is to identify individuals to deliver them to by Good Friday (4/7).  Volunteers to put the bins together are greatly appreciated and volunteers to assist delivering them to the assigned individuals, shelters and/or VA in Lebanon. We need to purchase 25 oversized 25-gallon plastic bins to store a set of these items in each bin.

Volunteers are needed on April 3rd or 4th to pack individual home starter kits.

This list of items normally goes into every bin handed out:

2 wash cloths
1 hand towel
1 dish towel
2 dish cloths
1 dual pack of paper towels
2 toilet paper rolls
1 pack of dish sponges
3 qt bottle of bleach
2 packs reusable cloth wipes
1 tooth brush
1 tooth paste
1 deodorant
1 dish detergent
1 clear shower curtain
2 bars of soap
1 toilet brush cleaner
1 150 oz. detergent
1 bottle of multi surface cleaner
1 window cleaner
